OKay; so you've seen my emulation pages; you know that I'm a lifeless
geek. But one can't only work on games from 20 years ago... one must
get bored of that. And one usually does, from the accounts of all the
major emulation authors....
So I've always kept busy at plenty of other things, as you can see in
these many pages. One thing I've liked to do is fiddle around with creating
new games that mimic classics, with new always-wanted features, or even
all new games with the same simplicity as the original greats.
Some day I'm going to bring together these many frobs and churn out
an engine for creating classic style vector or raster games, with various
types of playfield. Someday.
This is just a toy I whipped up while commuting... it will eventually be evil.. for now its just a cheep Asteroids clone, with some extras. A screenshot follows, as well as sources to build it. A c++ compiler and X11 are required. Intentions are to mix asteroids with pac man, among other thoughts..
SGE/X11 (DOS port coming...)A game for the Atari ST had me amused for ages; it was called "Simulcra", and essentially was a 2D-shooter game with a twist... the game board rotated around you, instead of your unit doing the rotating. This is a cool effect, and hard to pull of quickly and elegantly. Easy to pull of shittily.. It was also used in a few arcade games that I've forgotten the names of. Ataxx? Something like that. "Assault"? "Armoured Assault"?
